AMFTC's Friend and Supporter Toronto's Own Professional Dancer : Amanda Cordeiro

One of Toronto's very own professional dancers, Amanda Cordeiro, decided late last year that she would take a shot a modeling and what a great "shot" that was. Having spent many years dancing, she honed her skills not only as a dancer but as a creative artist as well. She felt that her creative side could shine through as a model. Being featured in the 2010 Day & Night Calendar as Miss March, Amanda's side project of modeling seems to be taking her career into broader horizons. While at the moment Amanda's main focus remains her passion, dance (She performs regularly at various events in the Toronto area.); her new adventures into the modeling world continue to explode. For information contact: cordeiro_0116@hotmail.com.

Rockstar Motorsports Inc supports AMFTC!!!

Want to know more about Rockstar Inc. AMFTC's sponsor?

Rockstar Motorsports Inc., located in Cambridge Ontario, was made from Lou Kovac's ingenious design. Lou, owner of Rockstar, wanted to create a shop where the cars you have seen in movies could become a reality and he did just that. With more than 15 years in automotive customization and design, Rockstar Inc. has turned many ordinary vehicles into extraordinary masterpieces; each of which has accents of Lou's distinctive signature touch.

Rockstar is also a supplier in high end aluminuim wheels and can do any performance upgrades to your vehicle. The high end aluminuim wheels are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Dodge Charger featured in the 2010 Day & Night Calendar. The Charger, one of AMFTC's favourite cars, has hydraulics that makes the car dance, tinted windows, and a custom paint job. It is too amazing to put in words, you simply need to see it with your own eyes.

Another of Rockstar's amazing creations is the Chrysler 300z with a Bentley front end and cat eyes.. The black cat alongside the Dodge Charger joined AMFTC at the Sound Academy on December 4th, 2009. Contact Rockstar Inc to see these luxury vehicles.

For more information, call 519-620-1882 and visit the website www.rockstarinc.ca. You can also visit the shop at 135 Thompson Drive in Cambridge, Ontario.

Happy Rememberance Day!

Hello All our fellow vetrans,

AMFTC would like to salut you. We feel that after many years of grade school repetition; that this poem by Canadian John McCrae should never be forgotten.

So please Remember...

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

AMFTC would like to Introduce you to our NEW Drummer

Hello AMFTC fans.... We would like to formally introduce you to our New Drummer Alessandro Zito. He is an amazing drummer that keeps AMFTC sounding sharp.

AMFTC

Alessandro Zito: Drummer

Age: 23

Influences: Dream Theater, Stratovarious, Killswitch Engage, Kamelot, Basil Poledouris

Born to a musical mother and father, Alessandro showed interest in music almost instantly. After seeing that Alessandro could not stop banging on the kitchen pots and pans, Alessandro received his first drum kit when he was only four years old. His timing and talent are indicative of a level of perfection that can only be achieved with years of experience. Alessandro enjoyed listening to eighties bands, European metal, rock bands, and progressive rock. Tullio DePiscopo saw Alessandro play and he saw the potential for greatness in Alessandro's talent. Tullio was so moved that he encouraged Alessandro's parents to keep him in lessons.

He later branched into piano, where he learnt musical theory and began performing at local recitals in the west end of the city under the careful instruction of Robert Desalle. He performed with the school jazz orchestra and they were so successful that they toured Florida. At the age of 11, Alessandro was playing in his first band Sinister West, with guitarist Kamil Rzeznik. Sinister West was Alessandro's first taste of being in a 'real' band. After playing in numerous projects ranging from progressive metal, jazz and funk, he united with an acoustic duo that would later become a complete rock band called Virtue & Vice. Virtue & Vice really stepped things up a notch for Alessandro when he was exposed to dealing with record companies and meeting industry professional. The band reached moderate success in Toronto and established a small following in the local music industry. The band slowly fell apart and Alessandro sought a new project.

A strike of lighting came one day when a quick 'Facebook' message, sent by guitarist Rzeznik, arrived in the Inbox simply saying, "Are you interested in drumming for a different project?" AMFTC needed an experience drummer with a certain talent. After the first audition, it became evident that not only was the chemistry between the band members instant, but the band never sounded tighter. Alessandro is just another weapon in AMFTC's arsenal.

AMFTC's Guitarist Steve Genua

AMFTC
Steve Genua: Guitarist
Age: 26

Influences: Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Bullet for My Valentine, Linkin Park, Smashing Pumpkins, Cancer Bats...etc.

In 1990 at the age of seven Steve Genua first heard and fell in love with the band Bon Jovi. From that moment on he aspired and dreamed of being able to wail on the guitar as well as Richie Sambora and one day play in a rock band of his own. In the spring of 1995, he finally got his first guitar. Steve was privately taught by jazz great George Grosman. In his early teens he formed his first band with school friends, a side project that only Steve took seriously. When they ceased to exist as a band Steve kept practicing. During late 1998, he began jamming with a friend and together they would ultimately form the group 22 Ounce Kilo. The band finally came together when front man Brandon Ross joined. 22 Ounce Kilo performed as a band for numerous years, ending abruptly with the departure of Brandon. With the loss of a band member 22 Ounce Kilo lost its momentum. He continued to compose on his own while searching for musicians who shared his musical passion, vision and values.

During late summer of 2006, Steve received an unexpected call from former front man Brandon Ross. Ross proposed a creative coalition. Agreeing, Steve and Brandon went headlong into forming and finding the rest of the puzzle pieces. For Steve this venture was unknowingly to become one of the most serious and solid bands that he had ever been a part of. At their one month mark a name for their new project was concocted. "A Match for the Curious." At eight months old the band, "A Match for the Curious," (AMFTC) began playing gigs with a bang, kicking off their performance career with a show at the renowned Vans Warped Tour.

A year into performing AMFTC had gained staggering momentum. AMFTC performed and won the Canadian leg of the Emergenza Music Festival leading to the Taubertal Open Air Festival in Germany. At the Taubertal Festival, AMFTC was up to compete with bands from around the world. Still new to the music world, AMFTC rose up to the daunting task and performed in front of 20,000 people with competence and confidence well beyond their years. AMFTC came back home owning the international honour of third place for 2008.

Bassist Robin Dworak's Bio

AMFTC
Robin Dworak: Bassist
Age: 30
Influences: Strata, Coheed and Cambria, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Les Claypoole
Although Robin played the trombone and alto-sax during junior high and high school, Robin was involved in many other ventures (such as horse riding and karate) prior to becoming a 'musician.' Vince the lead singer of Hammerthumb approached Robin and asked him to become a member of the band. Having never played bass before Robin accepted and he excelled almost immediately at the age of 18. Hammerthumb was around from four years ending in 2004, but music was flowing
through Robin's fingers and he was eager to start a new project. Soon after, Robin joined Tenhundred in 2005. In Tenhundred, Robin learnt a lot about music as their repertoire included everything from original pieces to covers. These various writing and playing styles influenced Robin's playing greatly. Since then he has been in a few projects from funk to jazz to a 'Kiss' tribute band. In 2007, he joined a band called Ejune and played along side a very talented guitarist named Kamil Rzeznik. Ejune was a serious project introducing its young members to music as a business. Ejune also took home first place in the Paragon Battle of the Bands.
While Robin is a musician at heart, he has dabbled in many walks of the entertainment industry. Robin adds energy to AMFTC's live show, a quality he gained from his experience being the head knight at Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. Over the ten years in which Robin worked there he performed day in and day out as one of the knights in front of sold out crowds of 1500-2000 people. Medieval Times definitely taught Robin the importance of practicing with a regimented schedule, meeting tight deadlines and being dedicated to a group project. Robin was also a stuntman and acted for television shows - La Femme Nikita, Relic Hunter, the Argos Half Time Show, and Breakfast Television.
In early 2007, AMFTC was without a bassist. Rzeznik remembered the intelligent bass playing of Robin Dworak and suggested that he be auditioned. He is the perfect fit for AMFTC's drun and bass rhythm section. Robin's level headedness, dedication, mellow temperament, helps keeps everyone grounded. Robin has described himself as being the 'lukewarm water' in the mix. In 2008 Taubertal, Germany's Open Air Festival tested the mix and proved to Dworak that AMFTC has a unique brotherhood that will keep them together through any storm.

Kamil Rzeznik Bio

Kamil Rzeznik - Lead Guitarist
Age: 23
Influences: Skid Row, Guns n' Roses, Avenged Sevenfold, Black Sabbath, Queen
Growing up in Toronto, Kamil Rzeznik attended a school where he was constantly being exposed to the creative influences of music and art. Having friends who all ascribed to the Grunge sub-culture, his music was always evolving. Home created a similar environment as his parents were always out attending concerts, wearing leather jackets and blasting classic rock. It was obvious that Kamil was in love with Rock n' Roll. All of these inspirations pushed Kamil to take this musical vision and make it more than a dream, a career. Music started becoming the young boy's homework, loving bands such as G n' R. Skid Row, Black Sabbath, Queen and Joe Satriani. After spending every last penny on albums, the void was still there. Music was in Kamil's blood. Picking up the guitar, Kamil would lock himself in a room all night dedicated to honing his skills, recreating every guitar solo on the albums he had purchased and writing his own riffs. He would go so far as to put his practice before anything else.
By the age of 15, Kamil's music teachers were so impressed by his playing ability that he was asked to play large festivals and graduation ceremonies at concert halls. Kamil demonstrated his skills by paying tribute to his guitar heros - Carlos Santana, Joe Satriani, Slash, etc. Kamil's outstanding ability to wail on the guitar attracted many offers from various local bands. Kamil has played with a number of bands including 88, Ejune, and Fancy Girls Market. Ejune was a serious project that taught Kamil the ins and outs of the industry where he recorded an album for a publishing deal.
In late 2006, Brandon Ross remembered Rzeznik's guitar playing from 88 and asked him to come out to auditions. Kamil's guitar solos won over the other members. Kamil's guitar playing style has developed significantly focusing on smooth tasteful solos and a clean powerful rhythym. Kamil's passion for writing makes him a creative force in the AMFTC team.

Brandon Ross Bio

Brandon Ross - Vocals
Age: 25
Influences: Linkin Park, Lost Prophets, Papa Roach, Foo Fighters, 30 Seconds to Mars, Michael Jackson...
Brandon started singing at the age of 15 while living in Aurora, Ontario. He started playing guitar in 1996. He auditioned for several bands throughout the year of 1998. Near the end of 1998, he formed his first band with a friend, and named the project, 'Bliss.' In this project, Brandon switched instruments between guitar, drums and vocals. This project came to an end as he had to move to Mississauga.
Feeling uninspired the music came to a halt until Brandon picked up a flyer in 2001 at a local coffee shop entitled: 'Singer Wanted.' So he thought he would give it a shot; it had been a few years since he had sung in a band. With his strong vocals, Brandon ended up becoming the frontman of the band called 22 Ounce Kilo. The project introduced him to his present guitarist Steve Genua. 22 was also the project that gave Brandon the opportunity to start writing songs as well as producing some parts with guitarist Steve. The band stayed together for a few years and played many shows and competitions until the band fell apart. After that, Brandon's desire to have music in his life was insatiable; he pushed on to find the right band but it seemed that he could not find one with his same dedication to music.
After searching on the internet for bands he came across another ad that sparked his interest in 2004. The band was Eighty Eight. Brandon was a part of this band for about one year until he realized that 88 was not the right band for him only after playing one show. This band included his present guitarist Kamil Rzeznik.
Years of failed attempts, led Brandon to believe that he should start his own project with his vision, showcasing a style that best suited him. So he wrote a handful of songs and riffs and called up his former guitarist Steve Genua in late summer of 2006. Steve was on board with the project after one phone call. Together, they worked on songs and formed a unique style that they were both happy about. They named the band, "A Match for the Curious." They figured that they needed a name that had a special significance... and after that the pieces and members fell together perfectly into a band that has catchy hooks and amazing chemistry.

AMFTC Bio

AMFTC

"There are no gimmicks. Everything's from our finger, our mouths."
- Steve Genua

In a music scene as rich and diverse as that of Toronto, Ontario's, the so-called "diamonds in the rough" can often be lost in the murky streets of a city that boasts more venues and wannabe rock stars than street corners. It would be a damn shame if the world let A Match for the Curious slip through the cracks.

A Match for the Curious is a rock band. Based out of Toronto, the group consists of Robin Dworak on bass, Alex Zito on drums, Brandon Ross on vocals, Kamil Rzeznik and Steve Genua on guitar.

The band has been in the game for less than two years but has already managed to accomplish more than most bands do in a lifetime. A far cry from the typical house party first show, this Toronto five some first graced the stage at Warped Tour 2007. Not to rest on their laurels, they later travelled to Germany to play Emergenza and finished in 3rd out of more than 6,000 international bands, receiving top honours for Canada.

Though the band is a relative baby, the five members of A Match for the Curious have decades of experience between them. Each has spent years performing in different bands and training dutifully in music theory.

Their songs -which can be classified in a thousand different pigeonholing genres but the band prefers to consider "just rock" - are different enough from the cookie-cutter music flowing from the veins of any given radio station, maintain a similar vibe.

Said simply, the band makes music that people want to listen to. The sound waves emanate elements of hard rock, pop, punk, and everything in between. Citing influences ranging from Sebastian Bach to Social Code. A Match for the Curious is like a poppier Three Days Grace mixed with grittier Incubus, but it's the secret ingredient that takes these boys out of the sandbox and onto the main stage of the most prolific players' heart. A Match for the Curious has that in spades, and it's evident every time their CD is slid into a player.

Still in the beginning stages, the band has taken up a guerrilla marketing approach: take over the iPods of everyone they know and inject them with A Match for the Curious tunes. "You'd be listening to Linkin Park," says Genua, "or Evans Blue, and one of our songs will slip into the mix and it just fits seamlessly with the rest."

The band is currently working on promoting their first release, a self-titled, four-song EP. The disc, recorded with Chris Crerar at Metalworks Studios in Mississauga, Ontario, is the result of four months of laborious nitpicking. Each song on the album is meticulously written and recorded, worked and recorded, worked and re-worked until each member of the band has signed off that it's the best it can possibly be. Anything less than a radio hit would have been unacceptable. "Good enough" is not an option.

When the band takes the stage, however, all the meticulousness is instantly washed away and in its place comes a wave of overwhelming camaraderie; a brotherhood of musicians brought together by a love of the craft. They get excited, the crowd gets excited and that energy permeates the room before the first song finishes.

AMFTC

Has it really been a whole month and 3 days after our last post? I guess it has.

We recently played a great show at The Opera House on Friday July 10th, 2009. We had a good turn out and the music rocked. Aussie Dave, thank you for showing up.

A well put together show thanks to Dante who invited different record labels to come out and listen to the different bands play. We want to thank the guys from Roadrunner Records and Feldman and Associates for coming out. Dean, we will be in touch. The sound that evening was really great and Tony Gravis made us sound clean and edgy. The light show was phenomenal.

As the Headliner, we closed the show with a 10 song set. The ladies in the crowd were shouting for "January Morning." But the Highlight of the show came when Brandon Ross leaned over and kissed slightly flustered bassist Robin Dworak on the cheek. Brandon Ross was dressed in his white vest and white fedora, looking very stylish.

To everyone who attend we appreciate your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at our next show on August 28th, 2009 at DC Music Hall. For this show we have 2 tickets and a CD up for grabs... Follow us on Twitter to find out how you can come for Free to see us play.
